 DID YOU KOW?

A dental examination is in order when the dog is between six months and one year of age and any permanent teeth that have erupted incorrectly can be corrected.  It is important to begin a brushing regiment, preferably using a two-sided brushing technique, whereby both sides of the tooth are brushed at the same time.  Durable nylon and safe edible chews should be a part of your puppy’s arsenal for good health, good teeth and pleasant breath.  A vast majority of dogs three years and older has diseases of their gums from lack of dental attention.  Using the various types of dental chews can be very effective in controlling dental plaque.

Accustom a young Yorkie to a daily brushing regimen immediately. There is nothing amusing about

wrestling with a Yorkie simply to brush its coat.  Most Yorkies welcome the attention, but early acclimation is well advised.  Daily brushing is advised for dogs who spend most of their time outside.  Although Yorkies who spend most of their time indoors does not require daily brushing, regular brushing is very important and effective for removing dead hair and stimulating the dog’s natural oils to add shine and a healthy look to the coat.  For the Yorkie, regular brushing will minimize tangles and mats, get rid of dust and dandruff, and remove any dead hair

 Neutering

Unless you intent to breed or show your dog, neutering the puppy at six months of age is recommended.  Discuss this with your veterinary surgeon.  Neutering has proven to be extremely beneficial to both the male and female puppies.  Beside the obvious impossibility of pregnancy, it inhibits (but does not revent) breast cancer in bitches and prostate cancer in male dogs
